Tied to Yesterday- Chapter 6
Chapter 6:
Light lanced the elevator as it ascended.
Emma gripped Alteu’s capsule in her fist. This was going to be easy, she said to herself, staring at nothing. Looking up would reveal the location she would have to face Falkner, and down would show how far from the ground she was. No thank you.
She shouldn’t get like this. This was a silly gym battle, the one where ten years old come out victorious. It was against birds, baby birds from what she could garner from gossip and research. Emma cracked her neck and popped her ears. This bout of nerves was totally unnecessary.
“Nothing could be worse than finals,” she

Chapter 5:
Emma woke up too early. She frowned when she saw the time on her pokegear. Six in the morning. Why the fuck would she voluntarily wake up at six? Sighing, she plopped back to bed and stared at the ceiling.
Last night she found Violet City’s pokemon center easily. By the time Emma reached it, exhaustion had caught up with her. She dropped off her pokemon to the nurse without a word, requested a room , showered, and fell asleep in less than half an hour. The sheets scratched her bare skin, but it was better than sleeping on the uneven ground in a ratty sleeping bag.
It was Sunday, she checked one last time before getting out

Chapter 4:
Emma expected many things. She didn’t, however, expect a water gun to wake her up.
“Tlaloc!”
Spluttering, she tried to wipe the water out of her eyes. In those brief delirious seconds one gets from waking up, she wondered why she wasn’t in her bed and why she called out Tlaloc instead of Artemis. That soon faded when, duh, she remembered she became a trainer a day ago. Shifting to a sitting position, Emma refocused her vision. She was on Route 30, right?
“Did I seriously just fall asleep?” Impromptu naps were nothing new to her, but today’s was pushing it. Tlaloc blinked at her. “

Chapter 3:
And the triumph faded away.
“Like, would you believe after all that trouble the trainer card was a fake?” Emma huffed as she sat in one of the plush chairs at the pokemon center with difficulty. Cradling the phone between her shoulder and ear, she rubbed her side. “I couldn't tell before because it was dark and-” Dammit, she thought of both the pain and almost letting it slip of her own fake id.
“And?” Vincent repeated, his parent voice in full throttle though he never used it before seriously.
Backtracking, she said, “And the police later told us it was a fake because of the lamination

“I leave the lab for a few hours and-” Kyle cut himself off and released Huitz. The pidgeot belonged in the pink and darkening sky. “Huitz go back to Route 29 and be on the look out for any brat that seems to be running for their life.” He handed Emma her phone back and started to run toward the outskirts of Cherrygrove. “Nothing can be fucking simple,” he muttered and she strained her ears to catch it.
The front door swung ajar. A man in his late thirties stood by the door frame, mopping his forehead with his hand.
Emma glanced at the man then at Kyle’s retreating back. The call had put

“Hm, are you sure it doesn’t bite?” Emma asked for the fifth time in a row after silent contemplation. The totodile kept looking at her, head tilted to the side. Despite the question, her face was mere inches away from its maws. Behind her, she heard Kyle sigh.
“He doesn’t bite, Emma,” Professor Elm repeated, voice breathy. “If you are worried about his biting tendencies, you can always choose from the other two standard starters. Even then, he’s one of the best behaved totodiles I’ve had in a while.”
“Nah, keep the others. I’m all about water starters,̶

Prologue:
Emma read the letter again. And again. And again until the words were blurred and meaningless.
“Fuck me,” she said. The letter crumpled in her fist.

She couldn’t tell him. Shame and disappointed coiled in her stomach.
Looking at the clock, she calculated the time her uncle would come home. “Six hours to work this out,” she said, swiping at her eyes. Artemis, their pet delcatty, strolled into her room. She needed a way to buy more time on a long term basis. Unconsciously, Emma scratched behind the delcatty’s ear, thinking up a solution, even a temporary one. She could figure out the rest as
